Role of PPS School Counselor

Classroom Guidance
Once a week, students visit with the school counselor as part of the encore rotation. Some topics for classroom lessons include: conflict resolution, career exploration, problem solving, character development, bully prevention, persistence, responsibility, and friendship. These lessons are based on the following standards:
Standards for VA School Counseling Programs
Consultation and Collaboration
The school counselor works with parents, teachers, and other professionals inside and outside of the school building to assist in identifying and addressing barriers to student achievement.
Crisis Response and Intervention
The school counselor helps students navigate critical and/or emergency situations in the school, community, and/or students' personal lives.
Community Resources and Referrals
The school counselor can provide information and community resources as needed.
