Mr. Justin Grabowski
I am excited to be starting the 4th Quarter with you! Our class may look a little different than what we are used to, but we will navigate our way through this change together. Here is some information you may find helpful.
When we have live instructional sessions or small group meetings, they will be on Wednesdays from 1:30-3:30
It is going to be very important that you check your PCPS GMail account and our Google Classroom at least once a day as these will be the primary ways that I will communicate with you during the 4th quarter.
All assignments will be through Google Classroom using the Five Ponds Our America on-line textbook and other activities. Assignments will be given on a weekly basis. Meaning you have the week to complete them. Generally there will be three to four assignments per week that you will need to complete.
There will be a reading assigned of no more than two pages from the textbook and a Google form assignment to complete with each reading. These activities will count as a homework grade for the reading and a classwork grade for the completion of the Google form assignment. The classroom Google forms assignments will be graded for correctness. As this is an open book assignment, if you receive a 60% or above on the Google form assignment, you will receive a homework grade of 100. If you get a lower grade you will only receive a 50%. You will be only able to do these assignments once. So read well and take your time doing them.
Tests and quizzes are graded for correctness. So again be careful, use your textbook, and any other resource I place on your Google Classroom to help you get a good grade.
If you are not sure how to join or use Google Classroom or just need a quick refresher, please take a moment to watch this short video. How to Sign-in to Google Classroom and Access Materials
I will have office hours all quarter where I will be available to help you or answer any questions you may have.
If you have any questions I am available through g-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org . I will check my mail frequently and get back to you as fast as I can.
Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have questions!
Welcome to my History Class.
This is my 23rd year teaching in Poquoson City Public Schools. I have taught all three grades and levels of Social Studies at Poquoson Middle School. I was formerly the Military Interpretive specialist for the Yorktown Victory Center (now American Revolution Museum at Yorktown) which is part of the Jamestown Yorktown Foundation. I graduated from Christopher Newport College with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a minor in Education in 1992. I also earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. I am certified to teach History and Social Sciences 6-12.
At Poquoson Middle School, I currently teach US History I to 1865 and US History II 1865-Present. In 2014, I was honored to receive from the teachers of Poquoson Middle School, the Teacher of the Year award.
My wife and I have two sons and I enjoy studying history and current events, playing boardgames and miniature wargames, reading, visiting historic sites and volunteering as a historical interpreter at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
On your class site, you will be able to access, class information, assignments (homework), calendar (test, quiz, & due dates), and many other resources to support your success in the classroom.
Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.
